An area of outstanding historical interest, natural beauty and wildlife, the Forest of Dean is located between the valley of the River Wye and banks of the River Severn. The area offers a wide range of activities including walking / cycling / horseriding / birdwatching / canoeing. There are local footpaths and bridle ways in the immediate area and others throughout the Forest and the Wye Valley - e.g. the Wye Valley Walk and Offa's Dyke Path. Or, if you simply want to relax and unwind, it’s the perfect place - a million miles away, or so it seems, from the pressures and stress of work and city life.
The Forest of Dean is an important area of nature conservation with numerous Nature Reserves; an excellent one close to Soudley is The RSPB Nags Head Nature Reserve. Symonds Yat, the famous beauty spot on the River Wye with its Peregrine Falcon lookout, is a short distance away. This is run by a dedicated team of RSPB wardens who are on hand to provide information.
Within walking distance from the house are the excellent Dean Heritage Centre and Soudley Ponds. The Heritage Centre provides a wealth of fascinating information on the Forest's history, culture and local crafts. Other places of local interest include the award winning Sculture Trail, Puzzle Wood with its spectacular maze, and Clearwell Caves.
